- 1/4 tsp paprika or cayenne pepper
- 1/8 tsp turmeric (optional)
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter
- 1 cup cold buttermilk
- 1 cup coarsely grated cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste (optional)
- 1/5 tsp dried parsley or fresh chopped parsley to garnish (optional)
Steps
- Heat the oven to 425 F and line a baking sheet with the listed ingredients or lightly oil it.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, paprika, turmeric, and sugar in a bowl.
- Cut in the cold butter, then stir in the buttermilk and cheddar until a shaggy dough forms.
- Drop six equal portions onto the baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden.
- Brush the hot biscuits with melted butter mixed with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and parsley.
