Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 3 cups whole milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 2 packages (10 oz) maria cookies
- 1/2 cup milk
Steps
- Whisk sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, milk, and egg yolks in a saucepan until smooth.
- Cook the mixture over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring constantly, until thick and the yolks reach 160 F.
- Remove the pan from the heat, stir in the chocolate chips, and cool the custard for 5 minutes.
- Dip the cookies briefly in the remaining milk and arrange a layer in a small dish.
- Spread custard over the cookies, repeat the layers, and chill for at least 5 minutes before serving.
