Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup + 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional)
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350 F and oil two baking sheets.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl.
- Beat the butter, 1 cup sugar, vanilla, almond extract, and eggs until smooth.
- Stir in the dry mixture, then fold in the chocolate chips and pecans if using.
- Shape the dough into two logs on the baking sheets and sprinkle with the remaining tablespoon sugar.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, cool for 10 minutes, and slice each log diagonally.
- Lay the slices flat and bake at 325 F for 15 minutes per side, until dry and firm.
