Ingredients
- 9 hawaiian sandwich buns
- 2 lb lean ground beef
- 1 onion
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1 cans (8 oz) crushed pineapple
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 tbsp packed brown sugar
- 2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp cider vinegar
- 1 tsp each chili powder
- 1/2 tsp each ground ginger
- hot sauce to taste (optional)
Steps
- Cook the onion and garlic in a large skillet with oil over medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook for 8 minutes, breaking it apart until it reaches 160 F.
- Stir in the pineapple, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, soy sauce, mustard, vinegar, chili powder, and ginger.
- Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat for 10 minutes.
- Spoon the filling onto the sandwich buns and add hot sauce if desired.
