- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- about 5 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-13-inch pan.
- Whisk the flour, salt, and baking soda, then beat the butter and sugar in a large bowl until smooth; add the vanilla and eggs one at a time.
- Mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk.
- Spread the batter in the pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean; cool for 10 minutes.
- Beat the cream cheese, butter, vanilla, salt, and confectioners' sugar until smooth, spread it over the cake, and arrange the blueberries and raspberries in a flag design.
