Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups pitted dates
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/2 cup vanilla
- 2 cups oats
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350 F and grease an 8-inch square pan with butter.
- Simmer the dates and water in a saucepan over medium heat for 8 minutes, then mash them with the vanilla.
- Mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter until crumbly.
- Press half the oat mixture into the pan, spread the date filling over it, and cover with the remaining crumbs.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden, then cool the squares in the pan before cutting.
