- 1/4 cup poppy seeds
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup maraschino cherries
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan.
- Stir the poppy seeds, milk, and cherry juice together in a small bowl.
- Beat the butter and sugar until smooth, then add the eggs and almond extract.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt separately, then add them to the butter mixture with the poppy seed mixture.
- Fold in the chopped cherries, spread the batter in the pan, and bake for 45 to 50 minutes.
- Cool the loaf in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to a flat surface to cool completely.
