Ingredients
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic (optional)
- 4 1/2 tbsp pesto sauce
- 1/3 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese (optional)
- 3/4 tsp hot sauce (optional)
- to taste kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper (optional)
- 1 16-ounce loaf french bread
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese
- optional garnishes: chiffonade fresh basil and crushed red pepper flakes
Steps
- Heat the oven to 400 F and slice the bread lengthwise on a baking sheet.
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat, then stir in the garlic, pesto, Parmesan, and hot sauce.
- Spread the pesto butter over the cut bread.
- Top the bread with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 12 minutes until the edges are crisp and the cheese is melted.
