- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 oz unsweetened chocolate
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup salted butter
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp peppermint extract (optional)
- 8 candy canes
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350 F and line two baking sheets with parchment.
- Melt the chocolate and butter together, then cool the mixture for 5 minutes.
- Whisk the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Beat the brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla into the melted chocolate, then stir in the dry mixture.
- Chill the dough for 10 minutes, roll it into balls, and coat each ball with granulated and powdered sugar.
- Bake the cookies for 11 minutes, cool them completely, and spread them with buttercream and crushed candy.
