10 oz spaghetti or bucatini
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
4 cloves garlic
2 pints cherry tomatoes
1/2 tsp kosher salt (optional)
freshly ground black pepper
10 large basil leaves
freshly grated parmigiano reggiano cheese
small basil leaves (optional)

Steps

Boil salted water in a large pot and cook the spaghetti until tender, following the package timing.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, add the garlic, and cook for 1 minute.
Add the cherry tomatoes, salt, and pepper, then cook for 10 minutes until the tomatoes soften and release juices.
Drain the pasta, reserving 1 cup pasta water, and add the pasta to the skillet.
Toss with the basil and enough pasta water to make a light sauce, then cook for 2 minutes.
Stir in the grated cheese and serve hot.
