Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 loaf sliced bread
6 large eggs
2 cups milk
2 tbsp pure vanilla extract
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1 pinch icing sugar

Steps

Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with some of the butter.
Melt the remaining butter, stir in the brown sugar, and spread the mixture across the bottom of the dish.
Arrange the bread over the sugar mixture, overlapping slices as needed.
Whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then pour the custard evenly over the bread.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the center is firm and the top is golden.
Cool for 5 minutes, then dust with icing sugar and add sliced strawberries.
