Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk or cream

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 325 F and grease a 10-inch tube pan with the shortening and oil, then dust it with flour.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt, then beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mix in the lemon and vanilla extracts, and add the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk.
  4. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 70 to 75 minutes, until a tester comes out clean.
  5. Cool the cake in the pan for 15 minutes, turn it onto a rack to cool completely, and whisk the powdered sugar with the milk or cream before drizzling it over the cake.
