- 8 granny smith apples
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp dried ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp dried ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice (optional)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 unbaked pie crust
Steps
- Heat the oven to 425 F and place the unbaked crust in a 9-inch pie pan.
- Peel and slice the apples, then toss them with flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, vanilla, and lemon juice.
- Fill the crust with the apples and spread the butter evenly over them.
- Mix the brown sugar and flour with the remaining butter until crumbly, then scatter it over the apples.
- Bake at 425 F for 15 minutes, reduce the heat to 350 F, and bake 35 minutes more.
