Ingredients
- 3/4 cups butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup thawed orange juice concentrate
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 tsp thawed orange juice concentrate
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 tbsp whole milk
- optional: food coloring and sprinkles or colored sugar
Steps
- Beat the butter, shortening, sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until smooth, then beat in the eggs, orange concentrate, and vanilla.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together, then gradually stir them into the butter mixture; chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Heat the oven to 350 F and roll the dough about 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut star shapes, place them on greased baking sheets, and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until set; cool completely.
- Beat the confectioners' sugar, butter, orange concentrate, vanilla, and milk until smooth, then spread the glaze over the cookies.
