Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 2/3 cup crisco shortening
- 7 cups apples
- 3/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/2 cup pecans
- 2 cups unbleached flour
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 tsp salt
Steps
- Heat the oven to 425 F and grease a 9-inch pie plate with the butter.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, shortening, and one tablespoon maple syrup with enough water to form a soft dough.
- Divide the dough, roll out two crusts, and fit one into the pie plate.
- Toss the apples with the remaining maple syrup, cornstarch, and pecans, then spoon the filling into the crust.
- Cover the filling with the second crust, seal the edges, and cut several vents.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425 F, reduce the oven to 375 F, and bake 30 minutes more until bubbling and golden.
