- 1 1/3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 10 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 1/2 tsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- green food coloring (optional)
Steps
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Beat the butter and granulated sugar until light, then mix in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Stir in the dry ingredients, shape the dough into a disk, and chill it for 30 minutes.
- Heat the oven to 350 F, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness, and cut out tree shapes.
- Bake the cookies on lined baking sheets for 8 to 10 minutes, then cool them completely.
- Beat the butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth, tint it green if desired, and spread it over the cookies.
