Chocolate Cherry Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 package (18 1/4 oz) devil's food cake mix
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 350 F.
  2. Stir the cake mix, cherry pie filling, three eggs, and 1 teaspoon almond extract in a large bowl.
  3. Spread the batter in a 9-by-13-inch baking pan and bake for 22 to 25 minutes, until the center is set.
  4. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  5. Stir in the sugar and milk, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer for 1 minute.
  6. Remove the pan from the heat, stir in the chocolate chips and remaining almond extract, and spread the glaze over the warm bars.
