1/2 tsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp traditional yeast
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup white sugar
1 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
3 egg yolks
1 cups raisins
1/4 tsp turmeric or saffron
12 1/4 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Steps

Stir the warm water, granulated sugar, and yeast together, then rest the mixture for 5 minutes.
Warm the butter, milk, remaining water, salt, and turmeric until the butter melts, then cool slightly.
Mix in the egg yolks and yeast mixture, add the flour, and knead until smooth, about 8 minutes.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 60 minutes.
Divide the dough into pieces, coat them with brown sugar and cinnamon, layer them with the raisins in a greased 9-by-13-inch pan, and let them rise for 30 minutes.
Heat the oven to 350 F and bake the bread for 30 to 35 minutes, until cooked through.
