Ingredients

1 14-ounce block extra-firm tofu
1 tbsp high-heat oil
2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp cornstarch
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/3 cup water
3 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil
2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
2 green onions (optional)

Steps

Press the tofu under a heavy pan for 10 minutes, then cut it into cubes.
Toss the tofu with 2 teaspoons cornstarch, garlic powder, and ground ginger.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the tofu for 8 minutes.
Stir together the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer for 3 minutes.
Stir the remaining cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water, add it to the skillet, and cook for 2 minutes until thick.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.
