1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 cup caster sugar
1 large egg
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 1/2 cups self-raising flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
50 g butter
1 cup icing sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp boiling water

Steps

Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
Stir the milk and vinegar together and let them stand for 5 minutes.
Whisk the sugar, egg, salt, oil, and vanilla into the milk mixture.
Stir in the flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, and baking soda until smooth, then pour the batter into the pan.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the center is set, and cool the cake.
Beat the butter, icing sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, and boiling water into a smooth icing, then spread it over the cake.
