Ingredients
- 11 oz thick-cut bacon
- 1 cooked beef sausage link (optional)
- 1 yellow onion
- 3 cans (28 oz) original baked beans
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp spicy brown mustard
- 2 tbsp molasses
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Steps
- Cook the bacon in a 6-quart Dutch oven over medium heat until crisp, 8 to 10 minutes.
- Chop the onion, slice the optional sausage, and cook both in the bacon fat for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the beans, maple syrup, mustard, molasses, ketchup, and vinegar.
- Simmer uncovered over medium-low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cook sausage until it reaches 160 F inside.
- Stir in the crumbled bacon and season with salt and pepper before serving.
