- 2 cups + 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsulphured molasses
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 pkg cream cheese
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan.
- Whisk the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Beat the butter and brown sugar, then mix in the molasses, egg, and vanilla before stirring in the dry ingredients.
- Spread the batter in the pan and bake for 22 to 25 minutes, until the center is set.
- Cool the bars completely in the pan for about 45 minutes.
- Beat the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth, then spread the frosting over the cooled bars.
